Planning Board for faster growth
Shillong, Apr 27: To dispel dissatisfaction among the people of the Garo Hills district due to alleged apathy of the government, the Meghalaya State Planning Board has asked the district officials to be more active.
The Chairman of the board and former Chief Minister Salseng C Marak made the plea to the officials at a review meeting with the officials in Tura yesterday.
He stressed on new ideas and initiatives for faster growth of the district, government sources said here today.
While studying the progress of various developmental schemes, the board pointed out that the Garo Hills district had the highest agricultural potential in the state and there was a need for the Agriculture Department to make the maximum use of it.
It invited suggestions from the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department for increasing the production of meat, fish and eggs to meet the local needs. Emphasis was also laid on solving the problems of the tea farmers.
Besides the Chairman, the review meeting was also attended by Deputy Chairman Dr R C Laloo, Commissioner A H Scoot and other members of the board.
