One vote per minute in first hour in Belgachia constituency
Kolkata, Apr 27 (UNI) One vote per minute was recorded in first hour of a polling booth in highly sensitive Belgachia (east) constituency where West Bengal Transport and Sports minister Subhas Chakraborty is pitted against his former disciple Sujit Bose of Trinamool Congress.
Vote in ward no. 75 in Nager Bazar began at 0700 hours and witnessed polling of sixty votes- thirty men and thirty women- in the first hour.
Octogenarian voter Bimal Dugar, soon after reporting at the booth and an appeal to the para-military personnel on duty for consideration of his age, was helped to cast his vote in the quickest possible way he ever had in his life.
Similarly, the ward nos 76 and 77 in the same building of Town hall saw quick voting procedure almost a vote per minute, although a huge line of the electors kept standing.
Women took the driver seat in outnumbering male voters in most of the polling booths in the constituency.
There was no report of any untoward incident from any polling booth of the constituency.
People stood in long queues to cast their votes.
