Nagaland reviews Asom Nagaland border issue
Kohima, Apr 27 : A high level meeting of Nagaland minister for Border Affairs Khekiho Zimomi with state government officials was held at Dimapur yesterday following threat to evict an oil depot situated at the border areas.
Official sources said the discussion was held with the inauguration of the border directorate branch office at Dimapur with the Commissioner of Nagaland alongwith with all the Deputy Commissioners of Dimapur, Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon and Longleng, together with the border magistrate and reviewed the prevailing situation in border areas and decided to reactivate all government machineries.
An appeal was made to the people to be watchful.
The meeting also discussed the CRPF issue, which is posted as the neutral forces but helped the Asom government to set up some polling stations inside Nagaland during the recent Assembly elections in Asom.
The meeting also decided to upgrade the Niuland police outpost to a full fledged one to keep strict vigil on the encroachments by the neighbouring state.
The meeting also decided that the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) border affairs of two states would carry out joint inspection of the disputed areas from time to time.
The Commissioner also informed that the meeting of the two commissioners of both the state will be held soon.
The Nagaland government had favoured an out-of court settlement of the border dispute with Asom. While the Asom government is insisting on settling the dispute in the court and registered a case with the Supreme Court of India.
