MPP internal fight continues

Imphal, Apr 27(UNI) Two groups of the Manipur People's Party (MPP) continue to fight with each other over the presidentship of the party.

Former president O Joy had announced that it has expelled L Borajao for six years along with four supporters.

Meanwhile, L Borajao contended that he was elected in the presidential election in December and was elected as the MPP president.

The Election Commission has also recognised him as the president of the MPP.

However, leader of the MPP Legislative Party Dr Nimaichand Luwang declared that O Joy would continue as president for the next six months.

O Joy and Dr Nimaichand announced that they supported the merger of regional parties in the state so that a strong regional party could be formed.

The MPP office was still guarded by security personnel as suppporters of both groups had clashed at the MPP office.

The wife and three sons of O Joy were also arrested by police for alleged involvement in the fight.

Three sons of O Joy were also allegedly beaten up in police custody.
