More quality education course in colleges: CM

Shimla, Apr 27 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said more professional and employment-oriented courses would be opened in government and private sector to help the youth get employment in various industrial areas of the state.

Presiding over the ninth meeting of the State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT) here, he said textile engineering and mechanical engineering degree course would began from this academic session at Government Engineering College at Sundernagar in Mandi district.

Mr Singh said the educational curriculum was being changed keeping in view the emerging demand for skilled manpower to meet the requirement of the industrial, hydro- power and tourism sectors.

The vocational courses were also being modified to provide employment-oriented and professional courses to help the youth get employment, he said.

Observing that Himachal had a good network of technical education institutions, he said, besides the National Institute of Technology (NIT), polytechnics and industrial training institutes (ITIs), the government has decided to start another engineering college with mechanical engineering and textile engineering courses.

The chief minister said Electronics and Information and Technology course would also introduced from the next academic session, adding that necessary infrastructure was being created to enroll students in other courses in coming years.
