Aizawl, Apr 27 (UNI) Alarmed over the outbreak of malaria in the neighbouring state of Asom, the Mizoram Health&Family Welfare Department is making an all-out effort to prevent the spread of the disease in the region, Additional health director Dr Baruah said.

Since the state is known to be in the Malaria prone zone, the department of health services had started spraying insecticide in the border areas.

The department had also started dispensing anti-malaria drugs to the public and deployed trained volunteers besides opening up more than 900 drug distribution centres in the remote areas, Dr Baruah added.

Rapid diagnostic test kits had been distributed to all the field workers posted in the interior regions.

Malaria is a major killer disease in Mizoram after cancer and tuberclosis.
