Karan, Ashutosh keep India's hopes alive

Dharwad, Apr 27 (UNI) Karan Rastogi and Ashutosh Singh kept India's hopes alive as they moved into the doubles semifinals in the Dharwad Open ATP Challenger Men's Tennis Tournament at the DDLTA Courts here today.

The Indian duo beat Henry Adjei Darko of Ghana and Nathan Thompson of the United States in the super tie-breaker 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.

In the semi-finals, they will meet Czech pair of Kamil Capkovic and Lukas Lacko, who beat Prakash Amritraj and Rohan Bopanna 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Earlier, Prakash Amritraj and Rohan Bopanna lost their singles second round matches.

Prakash lost to qualifier Phillip King of the USA 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 1-6 in 70 minutes, while Bopanna went down to Victor Troicki of Serbia 1-6, 5-7.

Meanwhile, Japan's Go Soeda toiled for over three hours under the scorching sun to beat Henry Adjei Darko and moved into the last eight of the singles competition.

Luke Bourges of Australia, who had upset Udamchoke Danai of Thailand, fell to Kamil Capkovic of Slovakia. Kamil won 7-5, 7-6 (11-9).

Top seed Taik Hyung Lee of Korea, Poland's Lukasz Kubot, Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin and Taipei's Hsun Yen Lu also made it to the last eight.

In another doubles match, Denis Istomin (UZB) and Orest Tereschuck (UKR) ousted Japan's Toshihide Matsui and Go Soeda 7-6, (7-3), 6-3 to move into the semifinals.
