Gulbarga, Apr 27 (UNI) Karnataka State SC/ST Government and Semi-Government Daily Wage Workers Association Honorary President Chandrasekhar Hiremath, who was on a fast-unto-death, was forcibly admitted to a hospital by the police here today as his condition deteoriated.

He had resorted to indefinite fast on April 25 demanding the regularisation of services of about 17,000 SC/ST government and semi-government daily wagers.

Mr Hiremath was admitted to the General Hospital here.

Superintendent of Police Ramachandra Rao told UNI that Mr Hiremath was not arrested. He had only been shifted to a hospital.

Mr Hiremath had Chandrasekhar Hiremath today resorted to an indefinite fast in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here in support of a long-pending demand.

The Association had been pressing for the demand for over an year now. As there was no response from the government, Mr Hiremath resorted to the indefinite fast.

The members had resorted to various agitations, including semi-naked procession, formation of human chain and demonstrations, over the last few days to draw the government's attention in vain.

Significantly, the Supreme Court had recently dismissed the daily wage workers' petition in this regard.
