Addressing a press conference here, PCC(I) president P Shanmugham said the party had given an ultimatum to the rebels to withdraw their nomination papers. As they failed to heed to the request, the party expelled them. Accordingly Mr N Anand (Bussy), Nehru alias Kuppusamy (Orleanpet), V Sabapathy (Modaliarpet) Rajaraman (Mannadipet), A Ezhumalai (Ossudu) J Narayanasamy (Villianur) and V M C V Ganapathy (Neravi) are expelled from all their posts and primary membership of the party.
Mr Shanmugham said their expulsion would make no difference to the prospects of the Congress and that it would form the government here.
He also cautioned that all Congress cadres and leaders were supposed to work not only for the victory of the Congress candidates, but also for the alliance party candidates. Anyone found lagging behind would meet with the same fate as the rebels.
Mr Shanmugham he would tour all the 27 constituencies in Pondicherry and Karaikal from tomorrow.
