CEO casts his vote after morning hiccups

Kolkata, Apr 27 (UNI) Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) in West Bengal Debashis Sen who could not cast his vote this morning because of EVM snag at the polling booth, exercised his franchise in the afternoon.

When Mr Sen went to the booth at Prakash Bhavan in Salt Lake area under Belgachia East Constituency at around 07-30 hours he found that the EVM machine was malfunctioning. He then decided to go to his office.

He returned at around 14-00 hours and cast his vote amid long queues of voters.

On coming out Mr Sen told newspersons, ''So far more than 50 per cent votes were cast in Kolkata and its two adjoining districts with no report of any major disturbances from anywhere so far.

''Except the report of some EVM malfunctioning,there was no complaint from anyone or from any political party,'' he said adding that polling was continuing peacefully everywhere.

Incidentally, state Transport Minister Subhas Chakraborty is locked in a multi-cornered contest in the Belgachia East assembly constituency.
