Cabinet clears Bangalore Metro project
New Delhi, Apr 27 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today approved 33 km long Bangalore Metro project at the current costs of Rs 5,453 crore for providing a reliable safe, energy efficient comfortable and affordable mass transit system.
The two-corridor project will have a debt equity ratio of 70 : 30 and the period allowed for project implementation in five years and is to be completed by the year 2011.
Recently, a Group of Ministers headed by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had cleared doubts on the guage system and ruled that the Metros for Bangalore, Mumbai and Hyderabad shall be Standard Guage.
Transport is one of the biggest hurdles faced by the people, and the Information Technology industry has been complaining about the poor road infrastructure and the increasing vehicular traffic in the city.
