Bodo peace body files case against OC over NDFB cadre killing

Kokrajhar, Apr 27 (UNI) The All Boro Peace Forum (ABPF) today filed a case against the Sapatgram officer in-charge in Bogribari police station of this district in connection with the death of a NDFB cadre in police firing on Tuesday.

ABPF district secretary Sarbeshwar Basumatary alleged that the officer-in-charge had ordered firing on the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) cadres without any provocation.

In an incident of cross firing, an NDFB militant was killed on April 25 when some members of the outfit had allegedly tried to enforce 'bandh' in Sapatgram, bordering Kokrajhar-Dhubri districts.

The NDFB had called for a 24-hour Asom bandh on April 25 in protest of arrest of its eight cadres in Guwahati on April 22 on charges of extortion.

The militant group has demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation for the deceased's family, whose body was buried today in his native village in the presence of a large number of people.

Mr Basumatary informed that the ABPF would take out rallies in all district headquarters of Bodo-dominated districts on May 2 to protest the incident.

He further said a meeting of the ABPF central committee would be held in Udalguri tomorrow to discuss the future course of action in the NDFB-Centre peace talks.

The meeting would also choose a delegation which would go to New Delhi within the next 15 days to persue the peace process with the Centre.

The NDFB is in a ceasefire with the Centre which is due to expire on May 31.

Meanwhile, after the militant group alleged negligence of the peace process by the state and threatened to walk out of it, official sources yesterday said the state government has taken up the matter of talks with the Centre.

The NDFB has been requested to submit its charter of demands to the Centre to facilitate peace talks on substantive issues as intimated to them in the joint monitoring group meeting, the source added.
