Kochi, Apr 27 (UNI) The BJP in Kerala today said it was confident of securing more votes in this Assembly election than ever before, and that its candidates in several constituencies stood a chance to win.

State president P S Sreedharan Pillai told reporters here the BJP, contesting all 140 seats, would prove wrong those who had written it off in Kerala. It would open its account in the Assembly this time.

He accused both the United Democratic Front (UDF) and Left Democratic Front (LDF) of having misled the people on crucial matters, and reiterated his party's demand for a CBI probe into the Marad incident and tabling of the inquiry commission report.

Mr Pillai asked Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Leader of the Opposition V S Achuthanandan and other legislators to apologise for the unanimous resolution passed in the Assembly last month seeking the release of PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani, who is in jail in connection with the Coimbatore bomb blasts.

Citing media reports quoting prosecution lawyers as saying no one except courts could decide on the matter, he said any interference at this stage would be an attack on independence of the judiciary.

He charged the LDF and UDF with following a policy of 'communal appeasement'.
