Asim happy on peaceful polling

Barrackpore, Apr 27 (UNI) West Bengal Finance Minister and CPI(M) candidate from Khardah Dr Asim Dasgupta expressed happiness over the overall peaceful polling and huge turnout of voters in his constituency today.

No major untoward incident was reported from the constituency till noon.

Dr Dasgupta, however, alleged that a middle aged voter was assaulted by a security personnel resulting in serious injuries to his hand in Ramkrishna Mission polling station at Rahara under Khardah police station.

"Since the incident happened in my presence near the booth I sent the victim to the hospital. I lodged complaints with the election authorities and demanded punishment against the erring security personnel," Dr Dasgupta told UNI.

He said the victim was waiting for his wife at the polling station.
