ADB offers $200 million for developing NE cities

Shillong, Apr 27 (UNI) Urban infrastructure in nine major cities in the North-Eastern states would be upgraded with technical assistance of 0 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The project, to be carried out by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER), would cover the capital cities of all the eight North-Eastern states and the city of Dibrugarh in Assam, a government press release said here today.

The initial works for the first phase of the project has already began. The first phase would cover Shillong, Agartala, Aizawl, Kohima and Gangtok.

The final project report for these cities would be finalised within May-June.

The second phase of the project would cover Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar and Dibrugarh.

The ADB's funding of 0 (about Rs.900 crores) would constitute 70 per cent of the project and it would come as loan. The Ministry of DONER would provide another million (about Rs.270 crores).
