Woman sarpanch disqualifed in Haryana
Fatehabad, Apr 26 (UNI) A woman sarpanch of this district lost her job today for giving birth to her sixth child after April 1, 2005 when the two child norm came into effect.
Deputy Commissioner O P Langayan declared Ms Surjeet Kaur, sarpanch of village Mohammad Pur Sottar, ''disqualified for continuing in the job''.
Ms Surjeet Kaur had won the election to the village sarpanch post on April 9, 2005, defeating her nearest rival Baljit Kaur.
She had filed an affidavit before the returning officer at that time that she did not have any child born after April 1, 2005.
But as a matter of fact she had given birth to her sixth child, a daughter, on April 22, 1995.
Deafeated candidate Baljit Kaur had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court for the disqualification of Ms Surjeet Kaur on this ground. The court directed the DC to act after investigation.
Mr Langayan ordered the disqualification of the woman sarpanch.
