Wipro working on simulating ''day''

Pune, Apr 26 (UNI) Wipro Lighting is simulating ''Day'' to provide the ambience of daylight to customers and companies working in the night.

Showcasing the architectural lighting range at a light show here today, Chief Executive, C&I Business, Rajesh Kochhar said that lighting makes a huge difference in workspaces specially in retail sector with large malls, super markets, pharma, textiles auto componets, BPO's, IT companies and call centres to name a few.

Besides, there is a need for dynamic lighting in call centres where an ambience like day has to be created to keep employees working awake and fresh through the night. The research for simulating ''day'' is going on and maybe a solution will be in sight in a year's time, he said. ''Its like playing fool with the hormones to keep them awake'', Kochhar said.

Mr Kochhar further informed that they were educating companies to change over to using energy saving lamps. ''We are at present designing and planning, doing the role of a consultant and not getting into installations of the intelligent lighting systems'', he said.

When asked about energy saving of upto 70 per cent, Mr Kochhar said that in workspaces, occupancy sensors are fitted and the lighting comes on with the heat generated from a person who walks into the room, and it goes off as soon as the person leaves. In a time of 14 hours at least energy of about three hours is saved as the intensity of lighting used varies, the payback time is less than six months, he claimed.

Mr Kochhar said that the US technology was environment friendly and presently they were working at making the lighting systems affordable. So far, Rs 600 crore worth sales of lighting have been recorded by the FMCG business of Wipro Ltd. The company was into decorative lighting as well as of facades and interiors. The company already has a manufacturing facility at Waluj in Maharashtra, and has recently started with the lighting systems business in the Baddhi plant in Himachal Pradesh that is making soaps and fatty acids, he informed.
