Uttaranchal's Journalist Welfare Fund increased to Rs 2.5 crore
Dehradun, Apr 26 (UNI) The Uttaranchal government has increased the Journalists Welfare fund to Rs 2.5 crore from the existing 5 lakh.
Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari today told representatives of the media that the amount would be utilised to financialy assist mediapersons and their families in distress. He said the media has played a crucial role in the inception of the state and is contributing in the development of the state.
He further issued instructions to all District Magistrates to immediately look into the problems being faced by the scribes and take necessary action in the cases pertaining to harassment of the media.
He also urged the journalists to spread awareness about government's policies and plans, besides providing them a platform to express themselves.
