Tension grips Bhiwandi
Mumbai, Apr 26 (UNI) Tension prevailed in powerloom town of Bhiwandi in neighbouring Thane district this morning following death of a man, who was allegedly assaulted by a group of youth belonging to a minority community on Monday.
A group of more than 200 people belonging to the majority community today laid seige to Shantinagar police and demanded stern action against those responsible for the death of Mohan Dinkar Jagtap.
Police, however, yesterday arrested Faqroodin and Sharfraj under section 307 IPC on the charge of attempting to kill Jagtap. They have been since remanded to police custody till tomorrow by Thane's District Magistrate.
The protestors today demanded that the accused be booked on murder charge in view of Jagtap's death.
Shantinagar police today said when some youth were playing cricket on Monday a ball hit a woman who, angered by it, seized the ball, removed stumps and took them home. When they went to her house to get back the ball and stumps, Jagtap, the women's relative intervened, and youth belonging to the minority community assaulted him, resulting in injuries to which he succumbed today.
