Submersibles to be inducted in four years :NSTL

Hyderabad, Apr 26 (UNI) Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) Director Dr V Bhujanaga Rao today said the first submersible, developed indigenously by the NTSL, would be inducted into naval services in the coming four years.

Talking to newsmen here, Dr Rao said the the NTSL was conducting laboratory tests and research to develop technology for the advanced autonomous underwater submersible which is unmanned and smaller compared to a submarine.

Stating that the submersibles would be used for civilian and military purposes, he said it would be utilized to promote under water tourism and rescue operations, besides taking photographs and inspection under water.

Mr Rao said the NTSL was planning to design shallow and deep water submersibles which would function above and below 500 metre water level.

He said significant progress has been achieved in 'stealth technology' during the last five years which involved development of state of the art technologies in the fields of vibration, acoustics, radar signal supression and infra-red.
