Security tightened for Jaya's visit

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 26 (UNI) Security measures have been tightened in the district in view of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's two-day election campaion, beginning today.

Police sources said Ms Jayalalithaa, who is beginning her whirlwind election campaign in Puliyur village in neighbouring Karur district, will arrive here, after covering several wayside villages.

After an overnight stay in Tiruchirapalli, she will begin here the second day of campaigning in the city in support of Democratic People's Alliance (DPA) candidates. After covering the Trichy district, she will reach Perambalur for election campaigning.

In view of her visit, security measures have been beefed up in the city and elsewhere in the district. Vehicle checkups have also been intensified, and men in plain clothes were monitoring the routes, were Ms Jayalalithaa will campaign.

City Police Commissioner Prateep V Philip has convened a Consultative meeting of police officials to review the security arrangements.
