SAI selects 67 hockey and football trainees

Chandigarh, Apr 26 (UNI) The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has selected 67 hockey and football players for its Day Boarding Scheme being conducted at DAV Senior Secondary School centre in Sector 8 here.

Eighteen hockey players in the age groups of Under-14 and 17 were shortlisted after trials conducted on April 20 and 21.

The remaining trainees are football players from Under-14, Under-16 and Under-19 age groups chosen by a panel comprising SAI Regional Director (Sonepat) SS Rao, Deputy Director Sanjeev Sharma, Principal Ravinder Talwar, SAI coach Satnam Singh, Hamajit (SAI Sonepat) and Hardeep Singh (SAI Sonepat).

Former Indian hockey coach and Olympian Harmik Singh headed the hockey selection panel. Other selectors were RS Rana (SAI coach), Daljit Kaur (SAI coach), Hardip Singh (SAI Sonepat) and Principal Ravinder Talwar.

More than 200 players attended the selection trials.

Hockey trainees: Boys Under-14: Gurpreet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, Rohit Thakur, Talwinder Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Akshay Kumar, Gurjinder Singh, Harpreet Singh, Yogesh Kumar, Navjot Singh, Gurbinder Singh, Gaurav Rana, Balbir Singh, Tejbir Singh, Parminder Singh, Joga Singh, Sukhjinder Singh.

Under-17: Jaipal Singh, Manpreet Singh, Ashish Kumar, Mohit Thakur, Sukhbir Singh, Amit Kumar, Mandip Singh, Anterpreet Singh, Kamaljit Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Shamsher Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Ravinder Singh, Shamsher Singh II, Gagandeep Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Ranjit Singh, Kuljit Singh.

Football trainees: Under-14: Ayush, Nitin Kapoor, Navjot, Sarvan, Sandesh Jhingan, Amardeep Singh, Rohtas, Nikhal, Parteek.

Under-17: Rajan, Rahul Thapa, Kuldeep, Vishal Rana, Ankush, Parkash, Mukul Thapa, Mukesh Kumar (goalkeeper), Gurpreet Singh (GK).

Under-19: Mukesh, Saurav, Charanpreet Singh, Vijay Bhatt, Amit Banga, Saurav Thakar, Hanish Bindal, Jasmit Singh, Kuldeep Kumar, Nayan Mudri, Jagatjeet Singh, Mohak, Simran Deep.
