Rejuvinated by Rahul's announcement,UP Cong vows to win next polls
Lucknow, Apr 26 (UNI) Bouyed by Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi's announcement to campaign for the party in coming assembly polls, the Uttar Pradesh Congress today pledged to emerge as a formidable force before the next elections.
AICC general secretary in charge of UP affairs Ashok Gehlot said especially after Rahul's announcement it was the duty of every party worker to ensure that Congress won the assembly polls due next year.
''If we do not get absolute majority, we should at least be in a position to extend support to others willing to form government.'' Mr Gehlot claimed Congress chief Sonia Gandhi was worried about the UP Congress. ''By working for Congress by rising above personal feelings, we can strengthen her hands,'' he said adding, she alone would not abe able to revive the party's sagging fortunes.
Yesterday, Mr Gehlot said he would like Rahul to be made general secretary and given charge of organisations like the Youth Congress or the National Students Union (NSU).
''In the AICC Hyderabad session, party workers had unanimously voiced their demand for giving responsibilities to him and it is high time that the party did so.'' Party workers had gathered for a review meeting before the coming urban local bodies elections. The meeting decided to consider the local bodies polls as a test for assembly polls.
''People's assessment that BSP would replace SP in the next polls is incorrect...people need a change which Congress can offer. We will have to work hard to fulfill their expectations.'' MORE UNI NAB VS RP RK1730
