Rahul to campaign for Cong candidates in UP assembly polls

Rae Bareli, Apr 25 (UNI) In what could prove to be a big boost to Congress in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls slated next year, Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi has given his assent to campaign for party Talking to reporters while campaigning for Rae Bareli Lok Sabha by-election in support of his mother and AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul said, ''If UP Congress wants me to campaign during assembly polls, I will surely give them time.'' ''It is upto the party's UP unit to approach me for electioneering during assembly polls,'' he said adding, there was no problem in campaigning for party candidates in the state.

Earlier, Ms Gandhi had also assured UP Congress leaders that Rahul would be available for campaigning during assemly polls.

Senior Congress leaders have approached the party president and Mr Gandhi campaign for party candidates during assembly polls.

''Since, Rahul has accepted the invitation now, the party hopes for a turnaround during the assembly elections,'' a senior party leader claimed.
