Punjab to purchase electricity worth Rs 3,000 crore

Jalandhar, Apr 26 (UNI) In a bid to bridge the gap between supply and demand, Punjab will purchase electricity worth Rs 3,000 crore from other states or sources during the year, state Power Minister Lal Singh said.

Talking to reporters at Manko village today, Mr Singh said the Punjab State Electricity Board(PSEB) had been asked to ensure daily eight-hour supply to farmers for paddy season, from June 10.

The present supply-demand gap is around 150 lakh units, which might go up during next one or two months, Mr Singh said.

In our bid to ensure regular eight-hour supply to farmers and adequate supply to urban consumers, power have to be purchased from other states, the minister said.

He said that last year too, the state government spent Rs 2,300 crore on buying electricity.
