Prohibition on misuse of word 'Indian'

Shillong, Apr 26 (UNI) The Meghalaya government has prohibited misuse of the word 'Indian' by private educational institutions following an order from the Union Human Resource Development Ministry.

The step was taken in view of a large number of private educational institutions in the state using the word 'Indian' in their names, said a government statement here today.

The Union Ministry of the Human Resource Development, in its order, had prohibited any person from using any name that may suggest patronage of the central or the state government for the purpose of business, trade or profession.

''As the use of the word 'Indian' prefixed to the name is a violation of the provisions of Emblem and Names Act 1950, any institute found violating this Act will be liable to have their registration revoked,'' said the statement.
