Patient seeks 'fatal prescription' from doctor!

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 26 (UNI) What will be the reaction of a doctor, if his patient urges him to administer poison through injection and liberate him from this world! A heart-rendering incident of this nature occurred at the Gandhi Adigal Memorial Government Headquarters hospital here today when a 60 year-old man Thangaraj, hailing from Anbil village in the district, urged the doctor to end his life.

When the doctor asked him why, Thangaraj told him that there was nobody to care for him after he lost his wife Pitchaimmal two weeks ago. He had no children.

He also informed the doctor that he had only Rs 4000 with him and the money must be used for conducting his funeral.

Shocked over the behaviour of the elderly person, the doctor, managed to pacify Thangaraj and informed the matter to the police at the government hospital complex. The police handed him over to ''Shanthivanam'' a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) for counselling.
