ONGC to assist Indian Army Engineers in Infotech development

New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) will assist Military Engineering Services (MES) to upgrade their infotech system infrastructure.

ONGC has implemented one of the globally-biggest ERP (SAP/R3) implementations with 13,500 user base on a fast-track of 27 months from concept to corporate roll-out with exceptionally stable commissioning of all 23 modules.

Given this remarkable achievement, the Military Engineer Services requested ONGC's assistance for upgrading their IT systems and infrastructure, incorporating full-fledged ERP capability.

Lieutenant General Ranjit Singh, PVSM, SM, Engineer-in-Chief of the Indian Army signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chairman and Managing Director, ONGC, Subir Raha here today.

With this arrangement, ONGC will provide advisory services, free of cost, to MES in: Project management for ERP implementation, Hosting for system development in ONGC data centre, Change management and training facilities and post implementation assistance and help desk support.

ONGC will nominate a dedicated team to work with MES team on this project, with supervision by the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of ONGC.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Raha, said that having implemented the ERP system successfully across the entire organisation, ONGC is now engaged in upgrading its Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system across the organization, to ensure real-time monitoring and control of each oil and gas well in operation on 24X7 basis. This is, again, one of the globally-biggest SCADA implementations in terms of complexity and size.

Lieutenant General Ranjit Singh, PVSM, SM, Engineer-in-Chief, Indian Army, appreciated the prompt response of ONGC in assuring all required assistance in the infotech project and noted that this will reinforce the close bond between the defence services and ONGC.
