MHADA tehsildar and head clerk caught accepting bribe

Mumbai, Apr 26 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths today arrested a tehsildar and head clerk at a deputy collector office of Maharashtra Housing Area and Development Authority (MHADA) office in Bandra East while they were accepting bribe.

ACB spokesperson A Kharpude said tehsildar Sanjay Ahire and head clerk Satyawan Sarang had demanded money from - Shridhar Suvarna, to provide a non-objection certificate (NOC) to him for his shop on Andheri-Kurla road, which comes under road widening project.

One January 27, they issued a notice to Suvarna to bring all the documents pertaining to his shop, prior to 1995. They again issue a notice to him on April eight and asked him to submit the documents within 24 hours of receiving the letter, failing which his shop will be treated as illegal and appropriate action would be taken, Mr Kharpude said.

Suvarna submitted the documents at the tehsildar office on April 10.

After going through the documents, Sarang told Suvarna that he will get an alternate shop at Poonam Nagar, Meghwadi in Jogeshwari suburb. He further told Suvarna to get a NOC, for which he will have to pay Rs Rs 5,000 to Ahire and Rs 2,000 to him as bribe.

Suvarna agreed to the demand but simultaneously lodged a complaint with ACB yesterday.

The ACB sleuths today laid a trap in the MHADA office and caught the duo red-handed, Mr Khapude added.
