Medicos protest against reservation bill
New Delhi, Apr 26: Police today thwarted a bid by students of medical colleges, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), to demonstrate outside Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh's official Akbar Road residence, protesting reservation in institutions of higher education.
Later the medical students, numbering about 150, burn an effigy of Mr Singh at Jantar Mantar.
Raising anti-reservation slogans and denouncing the 'backward step' of the Union HRD Minister, protestors demanded that the proposed Bill be scrapped.
Earlier, soon after the students assembled near 17 Akbar Road, police stopped them from proceeding to the minister's house as they did not have prior permission.
They were later asked to move to Jantar Mantar.
