HPU violence; Congress for strict action against guilty

Shimla, Apr 26 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Congress today demanded strict action against students involved in the Monday's night violence in the HP University campus, saying the situation could spiral out of hand if not dealt with sternly.

Addressing a press conference here, Himachal Pradesh Committee Congress (HPCC) spokesman Kuldeep Rathore said the violence had not only vitiated the academic atmosphere of the university, but had also created a sense of insecurity among the students.

''Violence has only made the lives of the students who are here to study difficult.'' He said the violence in the campus had already claimed three lives on earlier occasions and the situation could spiral out of hand if no strict and prompt action was taken.

Appealing to the activists of the student organisations to shun violence, he said it was also against the state culture.
