Efforts to curb illicit liquor flow during polls

Pondicherry, Apr 26(UNI) In a bid to prevent free flow of illicit liquor during assembly elections to woo voters, the Pondicherry excise department officals today conducted a raid at Mettuppalayam area.

The team which conducted the raid at the industrial estate and other areas, however, could not find any stock of liquor. The team would continue such raids in all the areas till elections.

It may be noted that the administration had declared dry days from May 3 in Mahe and Yanam regions and from May 6 to 8 in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions.

Cases were registered against ten bar owners who failed to comply with the orders to close the bars by 2200 hrs every day and fined them Rs.10,000, excise sources said.
