Bru students for quick repatriation of refugees

Written by: Staff

Aizawl, Apr 26 (UNI) The Bru Students Association (Bru Satro Dol) today said the Mizoram government was dragging its heels on repartriation of Bru refugees on alleged flimsy grounds and was not living up to its MoU.

Bru general secretary J Lalramzauva said the government should honour the memorandum of understanding it signed with the Bru National Liberation Front (BNLF) and expedite the rehabilitation of Bru refugees, who were languishing in refugee camps in North Tripura.

''Just because some disgruntled persons have taken up arms, the Bru refugees have encountered difficulties time and again and becoming neglected. We find this very hard to understand since the Government of Mizoram had promised to repatriate the refugees as soon as an agreement is signed between the the BNLF and the state government,'' a release here said.

They demanded the state government should keep its part of the bargain in order for the agreement to be fulfilled, and said the agreement was signed not only for the state government or the BNLF, but also for the sake of the bru people.

In a veiled threat, the release requested the people of Mizoram and the NGOs not to create obstacles when the BNLF and the task force committee take up measures to see that the agreement between the state government and the BNLF was implemented.
