Bandh affect life in Thoubal district

Imphal, Apr 26 (UNI) Life in Manipur's Thoubal district was affected today following an indefinite bandh called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) to protest alleged killing of two people by the Assam Rifles yesterday.

Four people allegedly cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), were killed in an encounter with the Assam Rifles at Nungei village in Thoubal district. The troops also recovered a four-wheeler from the slain ultras.

Assam Rifles sources said the four had tried to run away in a vehicle before an encounter ensued in which all the four occupants were killed.

The JAC, however, claimed that two of the four persons- Th Chanchal and L Santosh- were innocents and have refused to claim the bodies which were lying at the morgue of Regional Institute of Mmedical Sciences (RIMS).

Movement of traffic was affected on the national highway no 39 which passes through the district. All educational institutes were also closed down.
