AICC stays appointment of MPCC minority cell head

Mumbai, Apr 26 (UNI) In what is seen as a setback to Maharashtra Congress President Prabha Rau, AICC minority cell chairman Imran Kidwai has stayed her decision to constitute a minority cell of the State unit.

In a letter addressed to her on April 14, Mr Kidwai has informed Ms Rau of his decision to stay the appointments of M M Sheikh as chairman of the minority cell of Maharashtra PCC and other office-bearers.

Anti-Rau faction in the State unit is overjoyed by the AICC decision. ''Appointment of heads of various cells in the state unit is done by the AICC and not state unit'', they said.

According to party sources, they have asked for working committee meeting to be convened to discuss organisational matters including party spokesman Sanjay Nirupam welcoming the High Court decision in the dance bar ban case.

''A party spokesman speaking against the government decision is unforgivable'', the sources said and added that even Ms Rau's contention that Nirupam's remarks could be his own was not justified.
