76 Independents in fray

Pondicherry, Apr 26 (uni) Seventy six Independents would be contesting the May 3 and 8 Assembly elections in the union territory, compared to 74 in the 2001 Polls.

Yanam constituency will have the maximum number of seven Independents, while bussy, Rajbhavan, Ariyanakuppam, Modaliarpet, Kuruvinatham, and Nedumgadu have one Indepdent each in the fray. No Independent candidates are there in Mahe, Palloor, Cassicade and Nettapakkam constituencies.

The number of women contestants have also increased this time.

There are 11 rpt one one women candidates in the fray compared to eight in the 2001 elections.
