Western fleet wins Navy's boat pulling regatta
Kochi, Apr 25 (UNI) The Western Fleet today emerged the overall champions in the boat pulling regatta, the Navy's traditional maritime sport, held at the Ernakulam channel by the Southern Naval Command here today.
The competition had four races, one each for junior sailors, senior sailors, officers and best whaler. In the keenly-fought contests, the Western Fleet team lifted the Silver Oak and Cock trophy as the overall winners while the Southern Naval Command stood second and the Eastern Fleet in third position.
The pulling regatta symbolizes the seafarer's desire to perpetuate the memory of the earliest form of propulsion at sea. In the Navy, it is regarded as the best nautical sport.
