Vaccination drive against Japanese Encephalitis

Siddharthnagar, Apr 25 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh health department has started vaccination drive against the deadly Japanese Encephalitis (JE), which had claimed over 1,000 lives last year.

The drive has already started in Basti district from Sunday, Deputy Director (Health) D P Mishra told UNI here today.

The drive would cover five districts of Gorakhpur and Basti divisions viz Basti, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Deoria and Kushinagar.

The JE vaccines have been procured from China.

The endemic afflicts the eastern parts of UP, Bihar and Nepal during monsoon. Mostly children, become the JE victims.
