Uttar Pradesh emerge champions

Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, Apr 25 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh won the 12th Sub-Junior National Hockey Championship defeating Haryana 2-0 in the final here today.

Exhibiting a fine all-round display, UP outplayed a depleted Haryana leading 1-0 at half time through a 32nd minute goal by Deepak Yadav. Later, Abhinav increased the lead by scoring in the 62nd minute of the match. On the other hand, Haryana looked like a disjointed team right from the beginning.

In the match played for the third place, Orissa crushed Andhra Pradesh 5-2. For Orissa, Anil Kumar and Horo scored a goal each in the 42nd and 46th minutes respectively, while Popo scored a hat-trick in the 54th, 60th and 66th minutes.

Narayan Rao and Sheik Firdose scored a goal each in the 12th and 22nd minutes for the losers.
