Two persons arrested in car theft case

Mumbai, Apr 25 (UNI) The city police have arrested two persons, who have been stealing imported cars, from Uttam Nagar, Goregaon, in north west Mumbai.

Inspector S Narangekar today said acting on a tip-off that a person would be coming to Uttam Nagar to deliver spare parts of a vehicle to a party, the police laid a trap and arrested 35-year-old Ravi Reddy.

During interrogation, Reddy revealed that he used to deliver stolen vehicles to one Nizam Sayyed (21) at Kurla in eastern suburbs. Sayyed would then sell spare parts of the stolen vehicle in the market and Reddy would receive Rs 10,000 per vehicle from Sayyed.

Their modus operandi was to steal imported vehicles from Cuff Parade and Marine Line areas and dismantle it before selling the spare parts in the market.

Both the accused were produced before the 24th Metropolitan Magistrate at Borivali today, who remanded them to police custody till April 27.
