Surcharge waiver extended for domestic consumers

Hyderabad, Apr 25 (UNI)Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today directed the DISCOMS to waive the surcharge, on electricity arrears accumulated up to November 30, 2005 for domestic consumers whose monthly average consumption was up to 100 units.

This was in order to extend relief to them under the provision of waiver of bad debts.

There are 97 lakh domestic consumers with the monthly consumption upto 100 units. Out of this, 46 lakh non-paying consumers were eligible under this scheme.

The total arrears in respect of the 46 lakh consumers was Rs 755.7 crore, of which the surcharge component is Rs 219.8 crore and principal amount is Rs 535.9 crore. The scheme is applicable to specified LT domestic consumers irrespective of whether the services are under disconnection, bill stopped or live.

The specified Domestic consumers are those whose average monthly consumption is 100 units and below during the period December 2004 to November 2005.
