Save AMU Convention hails SC order
New Delhi, Apr 25: Save AMU Convenor and former MP Waseem Ahmad today hailed yesterday's Supreme Court interim order for maintaining the minority character of the university, saying the apex court decision allays all apprehensions arising out of the Allahabad High Court order.
''The restoration of the minority character of the AMU would go a long way in instilling confidence in the minorities and strengthening their faith in the democratic system of the country,'' said Mr Ahmad, a Member of the AMU Court and former president of the university students union.
He expressed the hope that the minority character of the university will be further elaborated when the five-judge bench of the apex court would consider the issue in the light of the 1981 amendment.
Mr Ahmad said the AMU community was also grateful to Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh who had promised that the UPA government would do everything to ensure that the AMU retained its minority character.
