Railway production units exceed targets

New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) Almost the entire production units of the Railways, including Chitranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) and Integral Coach Factory (ICF), have exceeded the production targets of locos, coaches and axles in March. During the cumulative period up to March 2006 also, CLW, DLW, ICF, Raiul Coach Factory (RCF) and Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) exceeded the respective targets of production.

CLW produced 129 electric locos against the target of 128 during April 2005-March 2006. DLW produced 148 locos, exceeding the target by five locos, ICF produced 1175 coaches against the target of 1093, RCF produced 1263 coaches against the target of 1214 and RWF produced 50569 axles against the target of 48010 during this period.

However, RWF registered a shortfall in production of wheels. It could produce 117425 wheels against the target of 120000 wheels, a Railway Ministry spokesman said today.

The total loading by the Railways during March this year exceeded the target by six million tonnes. During this period, the loading was also more than the target on all Railways, except Northern and North Central.

The Railways carried 66.19 million tonnes of freight traffic during this period, exceeding the target by six million tonnes.

The total number of passengers booked during March this year were 510.82 million as compared to 474.74 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 7.60 per cent.

The total number of passengers booked during this period has increased on all Railways when compared to the same period last year.

During March this year, there were no accidents on the Central, Eastern, North Central, North East Frontier and South Eastern Railways. The number of accidents during the same period were less on the East Central, East Coast, Northern, South East Central and West Central Railways as compared to the same period last year.

The punctuality of broad gauge trains (mail and express) during March showed improvement on all Railways, except Central, North Western, Southern, South Western and Western Railways, when compared to the same period last year.
