NCW seeks report within 10 days on Sati incident from Bihar Govt
New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) Taking suo motu cognizance of a woman committing Sati' in Bihar, the National Commission for Women (NCW) today sought within ten days a report about the incident from the state government.
NCW chairperson Girija Vyas will also write to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar regarding the incident.
''The incident is a complete violation of the Sati Prevention Act,'' Ms Vyas said.
''We have taken suo motu cognizance and sought a report from the state government within ten days,'' she added.
The Commission is in the process of gathering information from the state administration as to how the incident took place and was not prevented.
It has sought information from the state about the action taken against the guilty.
Sita Devi (77) apparently overwhelmed by the agony of losing her life partner, ended her life on the pyre of her octogenarian husband last week at Sidupur village in Gaya District.
District Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Jain said a case of 'unnatural' death had been registered with the concerned police station.
