NCR launches BNA and Cheque Truncation in India

New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) Global ATM machine producers and service providers, NCR Corporation, today announced the launch of its new automated cash acceptor and cheque processor in the country.

The automated cash acceptor is called 'Bunch Note Acceptor' (BNA) while the cheque processor is called 'Cheque Truncation', NCR India Manager (Sales) Geeth Lulla told reporters here.

''This is the first time we are introducing the self service cash and cheque deposit modules in India. We call it Intelligent Deposit technology which automates both cash and cheque deposit transactions at the ATM. So, the next time the customer wants to deposit cash or a cheque he need not go to the particular branch. Instead he can just drop it at the ATM centre,'' Mr Lulla said.

''The greatest advantage of this technology is that it works on image based clearing where the image of the cheque taken is sent to the bank where it verifies whether the amount in the cheque and the one typed is the same. If both these amounts match then the amount gets credited and otherwise it gets rejected. This also saves a lot of time,'' he added.

BNA and cheque truncation was introduced in the US and a few other coutries a few months back.

Apart from these products and services, NCR has also introduced a new airline ticketing system called 'ATM Next' for IDBI Bank which allows customers to book flight tickets through ATM centres. They can choose the to and fro destinations and which class they prefer.

NCR India has its main plant in Pondicherry and units in Hyderabad and Gurgaon, while its full fledged international Research and Development (R&D) department is in Scotland.

NCR India in partnership with IIT Mumbai has also developed new specialised ATM machines focussing on rural India.

These machines have positive air pressure which make it dust resistant. They have also introduced NCR Intelligent Power Management (NIPM) in which the UPS shuts down the machine at midnight and restarts it at 6 in the morning as the rural areas do not need 24 hour cash access systems.

The company has also introduced APTRA Promote, a fast and easy to use software application that enables banks to run marketing and advertising campaign on their ATM machines. These advertisments can also be used as fillers at the time of transaction, when usually the customer gets bored.

The price of the machine varies as it depends on what kind of features the banks need.
