Nawada facing acute drinking water crisis

Nawada, Apr 25 (UNI) Local people are facing acute drinking water crisis as the ground water level has gone down by 15 to 20 feet, while the mercury continued to rise.

Official sources said that almost all hand pumps and wells of the district had become dry following fall in ground water level and the situation was likely to aggravate with the summer getting 'furious' in the days ahead.

Several blocks including Rajauli, Sirdala, Pakribaravan, Kauakol, Narhat and Hisua are the worst affected areas as handpumps were not working.

Stating the reasons behind the crisis, sources claimed that several rivers of the district including Sakri, Khuri, and Dhadhar had dried up which used to contribute a lot in maintaining the ground water level.
