Mulayam urges Britain for investment in UP

Lucknow, Apr 25 (UNI) Stressing on greater cooperation, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today urged Great Britain to invest in the state.

British High Commissioner Sir Michael Arthur had called upon the CM at his official residence here.

Mr Yadav said British investment in the fields of IT, education, agriculture, industrial development, health, tourism, etc would further strengthen the age old bonds between the two countries.

''Democracy has deep roots in Britain, while India is the largest democracy in the world. Therefore, there is need for greater cooperation between us,'' the CM observed.

The two leaders also deliberated upon investment in the education sector and increase in British scholarships to Indian students.

Sir Arthur informed that his country has tied up with UNICEF for a 100 million agreement in health sector. He also stressed the need for greater investment in other areas as well.

The Samajwadi Party chief said FDI had indeed brought about prosperity in the country and improvement in infrastructure.

Mr Yadav referred to Noida and Greater Noida and the world class facilities the twin towns offerred to big investors.
