MTNL net plunges by 130 pc in Q4

Mumbai, Apr 25 (UNI) State-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd's (MTNL) net profit for the quarter ended March 31,2006 declined by 130.45 per cent to Rs 140.27 crore from Rs 323.26 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

The company's annual profit also declined by 62.26 per cent to Rs 578.67 crore in 2005-06 from Rs 938.97 crore in 2004-05, MTNLinformed the Bombay Stock Exchange today.

The telecom company's net income for the quarter as well as for the financial year also declined by 3.96 per cent and 5.16 per cent respectively. The income in the last quarter of 2005-06 declined to Rs 1594.51 crore from Rs 1657.61 crore in comparable quarter of 2004-05.
