Man drown daughters to death

Thane, Apr 25 (UNI) Frustrated over not having a son, a man allegedly drowned his two daughters to death and later buried them to destroy all evidence against him, in Daman.

Police here today said Mahesh Jagan Surthi (31), a resident of Dahanu town here, went to the Mahalaxmi temple in Mumbai Central with his wife and three daughters on Saturday.

After offering prayers, Mahesh asked his wife Pravina to go back home with their youngest daughter Khushi (3) and said he would return soon with other two daughters - Disha (7) and Nisha (5).

However, as Mahesh did not return home that day, his wife got panicked. Later when Mahesh came home on Sunday night without their daughters, Pravina enquired him about their whereabouts, Mahesh started giving evasive replies, following which she lodged a complaint at the Dahanu police station.

Police later took Mahesh into custody. During interrogation he admitted that after visiting the temple, he took his daughters to Daman where he drowned them in sea, and to destroy all evidence, he buried them there only. He said he did this as he did not have a ''son.

Police said a team along with Mahesh has left for Daman to exhume the bodies for further investigation into the case.
