Kolkata police kept in the dark about Rana's arrest

Kolkata, Apr 25:A team of Delhi police reportedly arrested Phoolan Devi murder accused Sher Singh Rana, also an escapee from Tihar jail, from the city last night.

Keeping the whole operation under wrapper, even without the knowledge of the Kolkata police, the Delhi team whisked away Rana from a house in South kolkata's Lake Gardens area to be flown to Delhi last night itself, informed sources said.

City police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee told UNI that he was in the dark about the whole affair. ''I have also heard a rumour but we have no knowledge about it,'' he said.

Rana, who had created a stir by escaping from the high security Tihar jail in the national capital has been residing in the city for the last couple of months.

He will be reportedly produced before a court in Delhi today.
